After almost five years offering training and support for mindfulness in a local community centre, an opportunity arose to take the main services we offer into a space furnished for the purpose.
We were looking for a space that was right in the heart of where people work and live; which had good public transport links; free parking, enough space to run courses for up to twenty people; and flexibility to meet the needs of therapeutic group work, one- to-one work and movement practices such as yoga. It had to be well serviced, affordable and, above all, peaceful. The community centre we had used had become noisier as it became increasingly busy - good news for the centre, but not such good news for meditation!
We recognised we were setting a high standard, so we were pleased to find just what we were looking for in a studio within one of Paisley’s historic former mill buildings. Close to the airport; convenient for public transport; easily accessed from the M8 and the M74 and with free parking the building is on the edge of Paisley's business centre, surrounded by residential areas. It is surprisingly quiet given it's city centre location. Among the other tenants who occupy studios within the building are many whose values align with ours, e.g. the Community Mental Health Team, NetWorks, Breathing Space, Quarriers and Bipolar Scotland.
We have equipped the Studio for meditation; mindful movement; meetings; groupwork and one-to-one work. It has the capacity to for up to 20 people and can be booked by organisations whose values chime with ours.
In the Studio, we offer free taster sessions, the classic eight-week Mindfulness for Everyday Living course, the shorter Mindfulness Based Approach to Caring, mindfulness teacher training and monthly mini-retreats on a Saturday morning. For teachers of mindfulness we also offer supervision and CPD. The Studio is also the meeting place of the newly established West of Scotland Network of Teachers of Mindfulness.
If you are interested in what we offer, or wish to use the Studio for your work with indiviudal clients or groups, then please visit our website, follow us on Facebook and Twitter, book our courses on Eventbrite or contact us directly at [email protected] or 01505 351001.
